About

Konráð K. Þormar is a cinematographer based in Iceland with a devotion to visual storytelling. He first picked up a camcorder at age ten, setting off a creative thread that would eventually lead him to film sets, darkrooms, and ultimately the craft of cinematography.

Konráð holds a Bachelor of Arts in Filmmaking from the Icelandic University of the Arts and is one of the few Iceland-based cinematographers working extensively with 16mm and 35mm film. The passion for film took him to the Terre di Cinema program in Sicily, where he expanded his technical and artistic fluency through hands-on work with film in an international environment.

His approach to cinematography is rooted in realism: attentive to natural light, honest textures, and the quiet details that anchor a scene. At the same time, he’s unafraid of pushing into a more stylized language when the story calls for it, using expressive lighting and deliberate visual choices to shape mood, tension, and atmosphere.

Konráð’s cinematography on Holur/Holes earned an award for Best Cinematography in 2022, and he received an Edda nomination for his work on Miðjan/The Center.

Beyond his work as a director of photography, he has contributed across camera and lighting departments on a wide range of productions, giving him a layered understanding of how images are built on set.

Fluent in both film and digital workflows, collaborative by instinct, and always searching for images that feel truthful and resonant, Konráð continues to explore new ways of shaping stories through light, texture, and the interplay between realism and style.

Konráð is available for work and open to new collaborations. For inquiries, he can be reached at Konradtv@gmail.com
